Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea, has condemned the Rees Labor Government for its absurd mismanagement of the Town Centres, particularly St Ives.

“Here is a Government, which has clearly lost its way,” Mr O’Dea said.

“First, the Government-appointed Planning Panel approved the Town Centre plans, despite overwhelming opposition, and now we learn that St Ives has no provision for, or even thoughts of a major central bus stop.

“This is despite St Ives lying at the intersection of Mona Vale Road and other major arterial roads and despite the lack of a rail link,” Mr O’Dea said.

“For some time I have campaigned for a central bus stop to be located near the Village Green, adjacent to the St Ives Shopping Village.

“It would be easily accessible by major routes through St Ives and provide a valuable facility for those relying on public transport,” he said.

“Despite a clear need, the Transport Minister has advised, in response to a formal written question in Parliament, that there are no plans for any additional bus stops at St Ives!

“What a disgrace!

“It appears the Transport Minister is oblivious to the need for good planning measures to meet the considerable population increase his incompetent government is imposing on St. Ives,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Overdevelopment in the St Ives area is bad enough. To add insult to injury by not properly planning for associated transport infrastructure is downright disgraceful,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
