The latest jobless figures are an indictment on a State Labor Government which has lost its way, according to the Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea.

NSW has the nation’s highest unemployment rate of 6.9 percent – up one percent in just one month and 1.2 percent above the national average.

“The Davidson Electorate has not been spared from Labor’s mismanagement of the economic downturn,” Mr O’Dea said.

“I personally know people, particularly in the property and financial industries, who recently had secure jobs but now find themselves on the unemployment list under State and Federal Labor”.

“Despite the latest figures, the NSW Government has still not detailed a State stimulus package,” Mr O’Dea said.

“While NSW Labor fiddles with figures, the Coalition estimates 360 jobs a day have been lost from NSW with Nathan Rees as Premier.

“Families with mortgages and rising living costs are facing an uncertain future,” he said.

“The Labor Government has a responsibility to the people of NSW to outline a clear and decisive stimulus package, which will restore faith in the economy, jobs to the unemployed and security for struggling families.

“NSW Labor should hang its collective head in shame.

“For the sake of all in NSW, we need government which can rise above the current economic challenges so that we can say with conviction we are indeed the Premier State,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
