It appears the NSW government is systematically selling off what little public housing is located on Sydney’s North Shore, according to Jonathan O’Dea, Member for Davidson.

“A number of my elderly constituents living in three different houses in Turramurra have been advised that Housing NSW intends to sell the public housing they currently occupy.

“These elderly people have been good tenants for decades, have health issues, limited mobility and are naturally concerned about where they will next live.”

“One lady who was told her house was to be sold because the Government has no money.  It is wrong to force vulnerable citizens to pay the price for the NSW Government’s mismanagement.

“We can only hope the Housing Minister recognises the hurt his government is causing and reverses these decisions”, Mr O’Dea said.

“This is also another indication of discrimination from the NSW Labor Government against residents in Sydney’s north at a time when public housing is meant to be increasing elsewhere.

“A response to a question I asked of the previous Housing Minister revealed that there were only 32 public housing residences in the entire Ku-ring-gai Council area, with only one created in 10 years” Mr O’Dea concluded.

In an interesting twist, there are rumours that the NSW government is negotiating an agreement with Meriton Apartments to move public housing tenants into unsold apartments at St Ives.  Much of this unsold housing stock has been forced upon Ku-ring-gai residents through the NSW Labor Government’s high density housing strategy.
