Highly respected community leader, Anne Carroll, has been nominated for the prestigious 2009 NSW Woman of the Year Award.

Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea said, “Anne has fought long and hard to preserve the beauty, heritage and traditional lifestyle of the Ku-ring-gai area.

“She is the President of the Friends of Ku-ring-gai Environment (FOKE) which last year won the NSW Government Heritage Volunteers Award.

“Under Anne’s leadership, the group has led community efforts to recognise and protect the residential amenity and unique environmental value of the Upper North Shore,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Her passionate campaign against overdevelopment in Ku-ring-gai has won her many friends within the local and broader community as she has taken the fight against overdevelopment to all levels of Local and State Government,” he said.

“Anne is driven by her love for the unique characteristics of the Ku-ring-gai environment and lifestyle which, once swept away, will be lost forever to current and future generations of Sydneysiders,” Mr O’Dea said.

The 2009 NSW Woman of the Year will be announced at a special reception to mark International Women’s Day, at NSW Parliament House in Macquarie Street, next Thursday. (5 March)

“International Women’s Day recognises the achievements and leadership that women provide within our community,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Anne Carroll’s unrelenting focus and determination along with her professional approach in battling inappropriate development is to be highly commended.

“Her work behind the scenes in preparing highly detailed and professionally presented submissions through to lobbying politicians, including Planning Minister Keneally, has been tireless.

It is most appropriate that Anne Carroll be honoured for her work through her nomination as the 2009 NSW Woman of the Year,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
