Residents of Eden Brae deserve assurances – not uncertainties – from the State Government’s planning laws, according to Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea.

This unique Retirement Community, comprising 22 private single-storey villas, has been left in zoning for 5 storey developments under the flawed State Government plans for the St. Ives Town Centre,” Mr O’Dea said.

“The residents, who have sought a peaceful existence close to facilities in their latter years are now faced with an uncertain future, thanks to Labor’s insensitive approach.

“For too long, Labor has failed to address this issue, despite appeals to provide residents with the security they deserve,” Mr O’Dea said.

“This week both Opposition Leader, Barry O’Farrell and I met again with residents’ representatives on the Eden Brae site, to view the adverse impact of adjacent multi-storey development and to progress residents’ concerns.

“As a result, I am making further representations to the Planning Minister, supporting the Eden Brae residents’ call for the Community to be excluded from the St Ives Town Centre planned re-zonings.

“The unique nature of their land titles means that even if one resident wanted to sell to a developer, a redevelopment could only proceed if all other 21 residents also sold,” he said.

“This issue has been raised before and needs to be properly addressed.

“The Minister could easily revoke the previous Section 55 direction over the site so it retains its Residential 2(h) rating.

“This would provide assurance and security for the elderly Eden Brae residents,” Mr O’Dea said.

“I call on the Minister to ensure the Eden Brae Community can look to the future with peace of mind,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
