Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has joined the chorus of opposition to the Rees Labor Government for its cuts to the Student Transport Subsidy Scheme.

“The NSW Liberal/Nationals Coalition will restore free travel for school children across NSW,” Mr O’Dea said.

“The axing of free school student transport is a bad decision because:

·        It hits families in the hip pocket when they can least afford it.

·        It puts school children’s safety at risk.

·        It worsens congestions around our schools.

“This decision will affect many families with some forced to pay up to $180 a year to transport their children to and from school,” Mr O’Dea said.

“The Coalition will restore free travel for school children and ease the burden on hard working families.

“I have today written to all local schools in the Davidson Electorate to inform them of our position,” Mr O’Dea said.

“The Labor Government is slugging parents with tax hikes at a time when families are struggling to cope with the rising costs of living and the uncertainty of the global economic crisis.

“It is time to send the New South Wales Labor Government a message that hard working families should not be forced to pay for almost 14 years of Labor’s incompetence and mismanagement.

“To lodge a protest against the New South Wales Government’s harsh cuts, I invite you to sign an online petition now at www.savestudenttravel.com.au,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
