Chair of the Coalition’s WasteWatch Committee Jonathan O’Dea today condemned the cost blowouts and misuse of taxpayers’ funds by the Iemma Labor Government.

“In the upcoming budget many worthy causes and groups will miss out on funding as a result of Labor’s waste,” Mr O’Dea said.

“We can empathise with those groups as victims of Labor’s management incompetence,” he said.

“Prominent examples of waste include:

  • ‘Unattached lists’ of jobless public servants,
  • Chatswood to Parramatta rail link cut in half for double the cost,
  • $95 million wasted from the failed T-card project,
  • $2 billion for an unnecessary desalination plant, and
  • Tens of million of dollars spent each year on advertising and consultants.

“It is disgraceful the amount this Labor government has cost NSW through sheer ineptitude.

“Like Nero fiddling while Rome burned, the Iemma Labor Government wastes taxpayers’ funds while basic services and infrastructure crumble.

“NSW desperately needs good and honest governance from the Liberal/Nationals Coalition.”  Mr O’Dea said.
