The Member for Davidson Jonathan O’Dea was delighted with the second Davidson Business Breakfast held on Friday, 4 April at which Deputy Federal Opposition Leader Julie Bishop was the keynote speaker.

“Ms Bishop’s message to the 75 attendees was one of hope for the future of the Liberal Coalition and the importance of co-operation at both State and National levels,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Ms Bishop said being in opposition is a tough task, with everyone wanting to offer advice and criticise what you are doing.

“Ms Bishop’s past experience extends to working as Managing Partner of a major law firm in Western Australia.  Her solid private sector background is valuable and needed in more politicians today, particularly on the Labor side.

“There is no substitute for real-life business experience to assist Ministers make sound decisions to achieve better outcomes for the public they serve. My own business background taught me to do more with less and should assist in my future political journey.

“It’s time for Labor to look seriously at their preselection processes and to stop nominating so many Labor staffers and union hacks for Parliamentary office.

“The lack of business acumen, proper management ability and accountability in the NSW Labor Government has contributed to the current transport, health and other debacles.

“People with sound life and business experience have much to offer in politics.  I am sure they would perform a better job running the State than the Iemma Government, which has created a real mess with its lack of business nous and its general incompetence.”
