A transport survey of the Davidson Electorate has highlighted the need for park and ride facilities and an overwhelming need to improve public transport generally, according to Jonathan O’Dea, the State Member for Davidson.

“Ninety-two percent of survey respondees identified themselves as regular users of public transport with 84 percent wanting more money spent on public transport relative to roads,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Half of the respondents were dissatisfied with current rail services and less than half were happy with bus services. Improved park and ride facilities were sought by 68 percent of respondents and I moved a motion in Parliament this week calling for this.

“Sixty-five percent wanted better bicycle paths which demonstrates the increase in people using bicycles as a mode of transport for work and for recreational activities.

“Twenty percent of respondents were happy with their local road network and the same number of people said they would support the expansion of the State road network.

“The survey clearly demonstrates the need for the Iemma Government to spend more on train and bus services, including easy access facilities at railway stations in the Davidson Electorate.

“This survey demonstrates high dissatisfaction with public transport generally. The pace of improvement to station facilities and services on the North Shore railway line as well as bus services must be expedited.”

Mr O’Dea said 1400 surveys were distributed in recent weeks at the Pymble, Gordon, Killara, Lindfield and Roseville railway stations as well as the St Ives shopping complex. Over 10 percent of surveys were returned.
