St Ives Showground new adventure playground

Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea, today announced almost $300,000 in funding has been allocated for upgrades to St Ives Showground.

Mr O’Dea said the funding is being provided by the NSW Government under phase 2 of its COVID-19 Showground Stimulus Program.

“It’s fantastic to report that $284,350.00 in funding has been secured for further upgrades to St Ives Showground.

“This continued funding comes at an important time as COVID-19 has been disrupting activities that showgrounds rely on for their income.

“This investment will improve the quality of showground infrastructure while stimulating work for local trades and material suppliers” Mr O’Dea said.

The COVID-19 Showground Stimulus Program funding will see the installation of new picnic shelters and BBQs and improved signage at St Ives Showground.

“The new work will complement previous funding under the same program. The previous round improved the facilities and included money to build the recently opened playground that has proved so exciting and popular with local children” said Mr O’Dea.

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes said the NSW Government has allocated another $20 million for showground upgrades across the State from the COVID-19 stimulus program to improve community infrastructure and support jobs and local economies.

“Our previous investment of $35 million helped upgrade these important community facilities while stimulating local economies and providing jobs for local tradespeople and suppliers,” Mr Stokes said.

“This additional $20 million investment will ensure that good work continues with a further 172 upgrade projects at 73 showgrounds to create better public spaces.

“Showground projects across the State have been wide ranging - from rebuilds of grandstands, pavilions, arenas and stables to upgrades of kitchen and amenities blocks, lighting and electrical systems, water and sewerage networks and roads.”
