The local community is being invited to help shape the future of two parks in Frenchs Forest and Belrose. Member for Wakehurst Brad Hazzard and Member for Davidson Jonathan O’Dea today announced funding for improvements at Nandi Reserve in Frenchs Forest and County Road Reserve in Belrose.

“It’s vital the community has its say on what it wants to see included in these parks, so they meet the needs of locals and visitors,” Mr Hazzard said.

“We’re asking residents to play an active part and share their ideas during the concept design phase from 16 April – 6 May.”

Mr O’Dea said a concept design, informed by the community and technical studies will then be developed.

“Importantly, we will be coming back to the community for feedback on the concept design before any construction work begins,” Mr O’Dea said.

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes said work on the two projects is expected to commence in early 2022 and be completed later that year.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have learned just how valuable our public open spaces are for everyone’s health and well-being,” Mr Stokes said.

“Local communities know best what they want or need from their public parks, and this program is a great opportunity to involve everyone in the process of improving our open spaces.”

The Northern Beaches parks are among eight to be created or upgraded in Greater Sydney, as part of the Parks for People program - an initial $50 million investment under the $150 million NSW Government’s Strategic Open Space initiative.

Parks for People supports delivery of the Premier’s Priorities for more green, open and public space in NSW and increased tree canopy and green cover in Greater Sydney.

Northern Beaches Council Mayor Michael Regan encouraged the community to have its say in developing the concept design for both parks.

“This funding will assist Council to meet the growing needs of the local community. It’s early days and this is an opportunity for the community to get involved in improving the open space in their area,” Mr Regan said.
