The Liberal Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea, says public education is shining on the North Shore as two primary schools celebrate outstanding successes.

“Roseville Public School recently came second in the Tournament of Minds in their division of Maths and Engineering,” Mr O’Dea said.

“The organisers complimented the school on its team spirit and the cooperation between all participants, also awarding them the ‘Spirit of the Tournament’ Award. I congratulate all involved.”

Mr O’Dea said he was equally impressed with East Lindfield Public School, whose teachers Peter Brock and Sue Hiblen began a robotics class as an after hours project for Year 5 and 6 students.

“This has led to two teams being placed in the final 10 out of 120 teams across the State which entered in the NSW Junior RoboCup at the University of NSW,” Mr O’Dea said.

“The school is now competing in the first Lego League Robotics Competition at Macquarie University in Sydney on 2 December, which will put all the students’ learning to the test. I wish them well.

“I understand from Mr Brock that problem solving, team work, mathematics and other sciences are involved which brings the project into the curriculum and the classroom.

“I commend Mr Brock and Ms Hiblen along with students Ben Moss, Michael Liu, Arabella Poole, Fong Sylaprany, Tim Scollay and Thepdara Sylaprany, who have put enormous time and effort into their extra curricular activities.

“I congratulate the leadership at both local schools for offering their students activities that build life and learning skills which will benefit them in the years to come.”
