The Member for Davidson Jonathan O’Dea said he is pleased there has been a victory for the local community in this year’s budget following his recent representations to the Minister for Transport over easy access at Lindfield and other local railway stations.

“The budget has allocated $5.2 Million for the commencement of the provision of easy access including for the disabled at Lindfield station,” Mr O’Dea said.

“This is part of a total of $17 Million over the next two financial years. I campaigned outside Lindfield station and other public transport stops dozens of times in the lead up to the election and I’m acutely aware of access issues for train stations in my electorate.

“I encourage the government to do more for Davidson constituents and am pleased that my representations are beginning to pay dividends.

“Given last night’s rail chaos on the North Shore line I would urge the government to commit more money to the upkeep of vital rail infrastructure as Labor has failed to deliver a safe and reliable rail transport system.”

Mr O’Dea said he would like to see an increase in the commitment to buses particularly to and from Frenchs Forest and Belrose.

“While the government talks a lot about the public transport system we are yet to see any real commitment to improving bus services in the area,” Mr O’Dea said.

“It is going to take more than flash rhetoric in the budget to convince me the government is serious about real improvements to public transport.

“This is especially the case when better public transport has the capacity to get cars off our roads and reduce green house gas emissions.

“I look forward to the government improving public transport safety, reliability and services in the coming budgets.”
