Jonathan O'Dea Opening the Warringah Road Underpass

Motorists will soon be able to enjoy smoother journeys around Northern Beaches Hospital, with the new Warringah Road underpass opening to traffic tonight.
The new underpass will improve journeys for the tens of thousands of motorists who travel along Warringah Road each day.

The 1.3 kilometre long, four lane underpass allows motorists to bypass the busy intersections of Forest Way, Hilmer Street and Wakehurst Parkway, providing safer and more efficient journeys.

“Although the project is located in Brad Hazzard’s Electorate of Wakehurst and my own electorate of Davidson, this is an exciting milestone for the whole Northern Beaches community” said Member for Davidson said Mr O’Dea.

“While Brad is currently incredibly busy as the NSW Health Minister, he and I are both tremendously proud of the project team for achieving this major milestone on a very complex piece of infrastructure” he said.

Thousands of hours of work has gone into building the new infrastructure, with more than 130,000 cubic metres of material removed and more than 20,000 cubic metres of concrete poured.

“The people of the Northern Beaches have a world-class hospital and will now have this fantastic piece of infrastructure that will improve their road journeys.

“When the project is completed later this year, motorists using the underpass will bypass traffic lights at three main intersections through Frenchs Forest, which will ease congestion on Warringah Road and surrounding local roads” said Mr O’Dea.

While all lanes of the new underpass will open in stages beginning from Saturday 28 March, final work on the upgrade will continue for a number of months.
