Jonathan O’Dea, Member for Davidson said more than 230 local schools across NSW will make their playgrounds, ovals and sports courts available to the public over the summer school holidays.
Kambora Public School and St Ives Park Public School will open their gates to the community over the upcoming summer school holidays as part of the NSW Government’s Share Our Space Program.
The program allows members of the community to use their local public school’s outdoor facilities for play, sport and outdoor recreation. Participating schools will be open every day from 22 December 2018 to 25 January 2019, 8am to 6pm.
Mr O’Dea encouraged members of the local community to use the schools and their facilities over the coming holiday period.
“The Share Our Space Program provides valuable opportunities for local children and families to get out and play,” Mr O’Dea said.
“I’m delighted the NSW Government is thinking outside the box and providing open play areas for our local community, and putting school assets to good use.”
Education Minister Rob Stokes said the program had been a great success over the last year and expected an enthusiastic response from the public this time around.
“Sharing our school resources with everyone benefits our whole community, and I encourage people to get down to their local school and use the facilities available,” Rob Stokes said.
The Share Our Space Program is part of the NSW Government’s $290 million Open Spaces and Green Sydney package. Participating schools will receive a $5000 grant for opening their facilities to the public.
The NSW Government is delivering a record $6 billion school building program over the next four years, which will provide more than 170 new and upgraded schools to support communities throughout NSW. This is the largest investment in public school infrastructure by any state government in Australian history.
