The NSW Labor Opposition has publicly shown their blatant disregard for Northern Sydney and all people in NSW through classist comments in NSW Parliament.

Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea gave a notice of motion in NSW Parliament today “that this House notes the NSW Labor Opposition’s prejudice against and disregard for people living in Sydney’s North.”

This was met with howls of agreement from some Labor Shadow Ministers in the House, providing vocal proof of Mr O’Dea’s claim of prejudice. The Shadow Minister for Family and Community Services even said, “I’m going to back that one in.”

“This appalling reaction reinforces Labor’s partisan lack of regard for all people of NSW, particularly those living in Sydney’s North. Labor refused to build the Northern Beaches Hospital, wants to shut down plans for the Northern Beaches Tunnel and plans to overdevelop the area by massively increasing dwelling targets for Northern Sydney,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Labor are clearly trying to divide this state and stir up class warfare. If they were in government, their policies would only favour people living in Labor-approved postcodes,” he continued.

“In contrast, the Berejiklian Government continues to deliver $80 billion worth of education, health and transport infrastructure for all people in NSW, regardless of where they live, work and play,” Mr O’Dea concluded.

The current NSW Government’s investment track record for all people in NSW encompasses:

  • More than 445,000 new jobs, including 65,600 in regional NSW
  • 59 new or upgraded schools since 2011
  • 70+ major upgrades to health infrastructure since 2011
  • 2000km of new or upgraded roads since 2011
  • Major public transport improvements including the Sydney Metro, Parramatta Light Rail and Sydney Light Rail
