Member for Davidson Jonathan O’Dea is calling on creative local individuals and businesses to nominate now for the 2018 NSW Creative Achievement Awards.

“This is a great opportunity for local individuals and businesses to be recognised for their creative contributions, so I encourage them to apply now,” Mr O’Dea said.

“There are three award categories for people and businesses that lift the profile of NSW creative industries - the NSW Creative Laureate, the NSW Emerging Creative Talent Award and, for the first time, the NSW Young Creative Award.”

The creative industries include visual and performing arts (such as dance, music and theatre), digital and traditional media (such as film, television, radio, web design, publishing and advertising), as well as architecture.

The NSW Creative Achievement Award winners will be announced in June at the Museum of Contemporary Art during Vivid Sydney 2018.

Minister for Trade and Industry Niall Blair said the Awards will reward outstanding achievements that raise the global profile of NSW creative industries.

“We want a variety of people and businesses to nominate from metropolitan and regional areas to show the diversity of our creative industries, which employ around 212,600 people and over 42 per cent of Australia’s creative workforce.”

The NSW Creative Laureate recognises a candidate that has made a significant contribution to increasing their industry’s global profile, with the winner to become ambassador for the year. Past winners include Plastic Wax, Saatchi & Saatchi Australia and Animal Logic.

The NSW Emerging Creative Talent Award offers a $15,000 cash prize and recognises an individual, team or organisation that has shown originality and innovation while contributing to raising the global profile of NSW creative industries.

The NSW Young Creative Award acknowledges a person up to 25 years old who has demonstrated leadership in originality and/or innovation and has contributed to raising the profile of NSW creative industries. This Award offers a structured mentoring program with a creative industry specialist from Creative Plus Business to the value of $3,000.

Nominations can be made until Friday 16 March at http://nswciawards.com.au
