Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has urged residents to remember daylight saving ends at 2am on Sunday, 2 April.

Mr O’Dea said, “Many people rely on their internet connected devices to automatically update the time, but it is still important to remember to wind analogue clocks and watches back one hour, and adjust digital clocks before going to bed.”

“No one wants to be an hour early for a meeting, and these simple actions can help avoid that embarrassment,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Changing the clocks can also be potentially life-saving.

“NSW Fire & Rescue and the NSW Rural Fire Service encourage households to use the occasion as a reminder to change the batteries in their smoke detectors,” he said.

Daylight saving is held from the first Sunday in October until the first Sunday in April in all Australian states and territories except Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

Daylight saving was introduced for the first time during World War I to save fuel by cutting down on artificial lighting.

It also operated during World War II for three periods, before being re-introduced in NSW in 1971.
