Davidson residents will benefit from the biggest Seniors Festival in the Southern Hemisphere, with Yoga for Seniors and Ku-ring-gai Council receiving a share of $200,000 in NSW Government funding.

Jonathan O’Dea Member for Davidson today announced Ku-ring-gai Council has received $4,000 and Yoga for Seniors has been allocated $790 to bring the 2019 NSW Seniors Festival to life in Davidson.

“The NSW Seniors Festival brings people together and inspires older people to try something new. I encourage seniors to get involved in the Ku-ring-gai Seniors Fiesta as well as Chair Yoga for Seniors taking place during the Festival,” Mr O’Dea said.

“Several NSW Government initiatives support Davidson electorate seniors to live life to the fullest, including the NSW Seniors Festival,” Mr O’Dea concluded.

On 19 February 2019, Ku-ring-gai Council will celebrate the Ku-ring-gai Seniors Fiesta – Active and Healthy, Body Mind & Soul. The event will feature a Rock n' Roll Dance, Salsa workshops, participative Chair Yoga, Tai Chi demonstrations and New Vogue Dance available for people with a range of mobility needs

People can also try Chair Yoga for Seniors run by Yoga for Seniors on 12 February 2019. Getting up from the floor can be cumbersome so chair yoga enables older people to sit and get fit.

Minister for Ageing Tanya Davies said the 2019 NSW Seniors Festival theme is ‘Love Your Life’, which encourages seniors to participate in the community and live active, healthy and social lives.

“The Festival will give seniors the opportunity to participate in exciting activities with friends and family, meet others, and share their insights and experiences.”

The NSW Seniors Festival 2019 runs from Wednesday 13 February to Sunday 24 February. To find local events and activities, visit www.seniorsfestival.nsw.gov.au
