Council announces free green waste collection for storm-affected residents

Residents living in areas of Ku-ring-gai hit by this week’s storm will be offered the collection service for disposal of storm-damaged vegetation until 13 December.

Residents living in the suburbs of Pymble, Gordon, Killara, Lindfield and Roseville will be able to take advantage of the free service to remove fallen trees and branches from their properties. The service will be provided until Friday 13 December.

Some conditions apply to the free collection service, which does not need to be pre-booked.

  • vegetation must be placed on the nature strip without blocking vehicle or pedestrian access
  • Council staff and waste contractors will not enter private properties to remove vegetation
  • vegetation should be cut to a length of no more than 2.5m
  • vegetation must be as neatly stacked as possible with branches laid parallel to the kerb
  • only storm related vegetation will be removed and not general green waste or clippings
  • The free service is being offered in the face of the unprecedented intensity of the storm which hit Ku-ring-gai at around lunchtime on Tuesday.

Residents in storm-affected streets will also continue to have their waste bins emptied by the end of the week, although there would be some delays.

The Council has also issued a warning about contractors approaching residents to remove trees from their properties on behalf of the Council. No arrangements exist to remove trees from private property by Council staff or contractors and residents are responsible for any removals.

For more information about the emergency green waste collection, call the Council’s customer service centre on 9424 0000 or live chat via the website at www.kmc.nsw.gov.au
